"Dental Treatment at Longford County Clinic"

About: Dublin Midlands Our Lady's Children's Hospital / Dental Our Lady's Hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

Cutting along story short, my son saw the HSE dentist in my County Clinic as he was in some pain. After she looked at my son quickly she said everything was fine and she'd see him in 12 months. I was not happy with this so I had my son refererred to the Dental Conlultant he had a number of procedures done and a review. Once all went well in the review he was discharged and the dentist there sent a letter to the county dentist with all details with what had been done and instructed them to see my son every 6 months to get a fluoride sealant put on.

With that I got an appointment for today in my county clinic for this. The dentist in the HSE county clinic had once again a very quick look at his teeth and then said ok grand we'll see him in 6 months. I asked should he not be getting a fluoride sealant and she said I won't be doing anything with this child. When I asked about the instructions from Crumlin she said they were all the same she doesn't read these letters.

I asked, what was the point in bringing my son in today? Her reply was I don't even do the sealants that the hygienist does this and it would be at least another 2 months before I get to see her.

I explained that I was here to follow up on the treatment he had got in Crumlin and I felt this was important. She said she disagreed with this and she would not do anything for my son.

What do I do now that the local HSE dental clinc will not follow through with the treatment plan proscribed by the Chief Dental Consultant in the national children's hospital?

I am extremely frustrated by the system and fell let down
