"Waiting 8 hrs and still didn't get to see a doctor in Drogheda"

About: Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

Arrived at 10. 50 am in A and E with letter from my Doctor. Within 15 minutes was seen by a young nurse who was unable to read the letter and asked me what was wrong. Told them I have continuous problem with sore throat and buzzing ears and every so often slight tightness in the chest. They proceeded to take my blood pressure which was high. They took it again using my other arm, still high. Told them I was put on Blood pressure tablets 2 weeks ago but could not remember their name. They said they will check my blood pressure again when I get to see a doctor.

Went out and waited to be called. Noticed in my time waiting that people that came after me were getting to see a Doctor while I still waiting. After 6 hrs of waiting ask the nurse why I am still waiting while others after me were in and out. They stated that people were classified. After another Hr noticed that a lady who had come in after me was call to see the Doctor. So someone who has High blood pressure and a letter from the doctor is classified lower than a sprained ankle. After 8 hrs of waiting, was not feeling great and left to go home.

By way of an update I went back last week with another letter from the doctor and was treated within 1 hr of been assessed by a much more experience nursed at the Triage.  She put a name tag on me with info showing date of birth, age and today's date. This didn't happen the first time when I was assessed by a much younger nurse who in my opinion was not experienced enough to be in such a responsible position.  Treated in A and E by a very pleasant Female doctor who was professional and covered all aspects of my complaints, assuring me that there was nothing serious and she would be writing a report to my Doctor.
