My brother-in-law spent his last number of weeks in the oncology ward of Sligo University Hospital. His losing battle with cancer that he had fought so hard against meant that he required the hospital environment to care for him during that time. Although medical treatment could no longer prevent the cancer from taking control of his body, the treatment and care provided to my brother-in-law and those around him by the Oncology staff was so gentle and much appreciated.
I think that Care Opinion is a wonderful platform to share ones experiences of our healthcare services and I hope that what I write here is shared with those who work there in the Oncology ward. May they know that the care, professionalism and genuine warmth they share with those they care for and their families does help ease the pain of those whose hearts are aching.
As my brother described in the eulogy he penned about Brendan.......THANKS TO THE ONCOLOGY UNIT IN SLIGO UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL. DESCRIBED AS “HEAVENS WAITING ROOM” AND IF SO STAFFED BY ANGELS SUCH WAS THE KINDNESS AND SUPPORT SHOWN".
