I got diagnosed with ADHD around 6 months ago. I had a feeling that I had this condition after doing my own research and relating to everything that people were describing and what it's like living with this condition. I was referred by Dr Haley from Letterkenny and I was seen very quickly as I was expecting it would have been several months before I was seen. When I arrived in the Sligo mental health building, I immediately felt at ease as Caroline was so welcoming and kind and even included my mum and sister and this meant so much to me as they are a big part of my journey and know me the best and help me.
The screening process was very simple for me as Caroline made everything very understandable and helped to break everything down and went into detail with everything. I also have Aspergers and I sometimes find breaking down information difficult but I was helped greatly. I then met Dr Adamis who has been the only psychiatrist who has taken the time to listen to me and understand me. For the first time, I wasn't being pumped full of medication to disguise the issue and was taken on a slow and steady journey with regular phone calls from Caroline which I can't put into words how much they have helped and guided me through times of worry and stress. Caroline also includes my mum which I am so thankful for and so is my mum. For the first time in my life I feel like I am being heard and understood and I will be forever grateful for being referred to the ADHD clinic in Sligo as it has saved my life in many ways. This team is doing a fantastic job and has completely restored my faith in Mental health services. I am still on my journey but I know I am in great hands. Caroline is an absolute credit to the team and I have been to many many facilities in the past 10 years of my journey and this service is second to none. Fantastic work.
