Two weeks ago I called my own Ambulance calmly to get a CT scan. I underwent a craniotomy in June 2020 and was experiencing inflammatory headaches.
I was triaged by a nurse in Sligo. I sat up in A & E in a chair waiting to be seen and I was eventually seen by one of the Drs who was amazing. I was very thirsty and requested water from a nurse and they ignored my request. I became very distressed by this. The day got worse and worse and I was interrogated by several doctors where I had been reassured by the first one. The other doctors were not great listeners:
I fell to the floor due to chronic fatigue. I was told that I had to stand up to sit in a wheelchair. I needed to urinate and due to lack of assistance I urinated in my dress in a wheelchair. Nappies were virtually flung at me.
It was unbelievably traumatic. The behaviour of the particular nurse should be reviewed in my opinion.
Eventually I was given a bed in the mental health unit and stripped of all my belongings. I told a nurse I was on my period and she searched my Ted Baker bag for underwear and she picked a pair containing my own dry blood instead of a fresh pair. That was disgraceful and inhumane.
I work in human rights and feel like i was not treated like a human in Sligo A & E.
