"Thankful for Crisis Resolution Team"

About: Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services / Crisis Resolution Team Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services / Leitrim Adult Community Mental Health Services

(as a service user),

I was referred to the Crisis Resolution Team after a stay in the unit. I found this to be a great service; the team visited me in my own home at a time that suited me where possible which was less stressful. I found each team member knew my case before visiting me so I didn’t have to repeat my story however a lot of the time I was seen by the same 3 members off the team which meant I was able to build up a bit of a relationship with them. They gave me new coping strategies to cope with stressful thoughts and other useful hand-outs, they also reviewed my medications. This service is available 8am to 8pm 7 days a week for a maximum of 6 weeks. I am now back with my own team which is fine as they always there for me.

Dear Getwell,

Thank you for your post regarding the Crisis Team. Part of our role is to intensively support people, who still have acute mental health issues, in being discharged early from the Adult Mental Health Unit so that they can recover at home in their own environment – it sounds like that was our role in your care. As you quite rightly state, we will work intensively with people for up to six weeks, until their mental health stabilises, and their care can then be transferred back to their usual mental health team, or their GP – whichever is appropriate. I am glad that you found the service helpful and supportive, and wish you well in your recovery journey.

Kind regards,

Dr E Gethins
