"Learning how to deal with anxiety"

About: Child and Adolescent Mental Services / Inishowen CAMHS Team

(as the patient),

It was my daughter who suffered from this illness, at the time we didn’t know what was wrong, I looked for help from doctors told it was nothing (Age). Things got worse I went back months later to GP for help, it was putting a lot of pressure on our family, there was a lot going on at that time for our family to deal with like leaving our home which was a lot for our daughter to cope with leaving all that was safe to her, that’s when things escalated went she was having serious outbursts at home and at school fighting with everyone hating life.

We went back to our GP who then referred us to Camhs, the waiting was desperate so understaffed when we did get an appointment we got Gavin who turned everything around for us, my daughter and Gavin got on great from the first meeting clicked straight away Gavin diagnosed her with severe anxiety her thoughts we’re scary, thing's i never thought were in her head, I know without a shadow of doubt if Gavin hadn’t seen my daughter when he did things would be much different today, thankfully with mts of session’s she is getting on great she was shown how to deal with anything that makes her feel anxious.

People seem to think the child would be labelled if a parent seeks help I would have been a worse parent if I hadn’t got help for my daughter I truly believe that my childs world would have been a much different place (if she was still with us at this stage) had I not go help, so please don’t listen to anyone outside go with your gut as a parent, and get a great councillor like Gavin.

Dear Happy Mum,

I am delighted to hear that you and your daughter got the help that you needed. It must be so difficult to see someone close to you struggling with anxiety.

I will pass your feedback on to Gavin and the rest of the team. It is really motivating for us and for others to hear stories like yours, so thank you for taking the time to share it.

We wish you and your family all the best for the future,

Tom
