"Proactive mam reduces waiting time by nearly two years!"

I wasn't covered by my private health insurance for a tonsillectomy as I had tonsillitis as a child despite the fact that I grew out of it before needing my tonsils removed. I started developing tonsillitis again as an adult 24+ years. My GP advised removing them and put me on the public list in Drogheda. 17 months later and approx 15 courses of antibiotics and steroid treatment still no appointment to meet the surgeon in Drogheda. My mum became quite worried as I was so ill and started ringing around different hospitals to find the shortest waiting time, low and behold, Beaumont hospital was only 3 months so she stuck my name down! I met with the consultant who agreed that I was definitely in need of having them out so he scheduled me in. After the surgery the consultant came around to meet with me and told me my tonsil basically fell apart when he went near them! I did end up back in a&e two more times with serious bleeds but they were unrelated to the waiting time. Two months after my surgery I received a letter from our lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda telling me that they hadn't forgotten about me and that I was still on the list to receive an appointment time!!
