"Improving Physiotherapy services in Blanchardstown."

About: Connolly Memorial / Physiotherapy

(as a service user),

I have been a patient and user of the Physiotherapy Department in Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown on several occasions over recent years, along with other members of my family. While I have been successfully treated in this department I wish to offer an opinion that in my belief would benefit this Service, Hospital and the HSE in general.

The Department is currently housed in large porta cabins in the Out-Patients area of the Hospital. This isn't what we should expect or be offered as patients or indeed for the professionals who are trying to deliver a service.

I am aware that the Hospital is investing in a redevelopment programme to improve and modernise some areas, which is welcomed by all.

My suggestion is that Hospital management/ HSE / The Minister give consideration to an alternative that may be available and is located in extremely close proximity to the Hospital.

On the approach road to the Hospital from the M50 is a former Fitness Centre/Gymnasium with a Swimming Pool. This Building has been vacant for a number of years and is possibly already owned in the form of NAMA by the state. To establish this would be something that would have to be done via queries to the relevant Government Department.

The size, facilities and location that exist would in my opinion radically improve the service that this Department could offer locally and also positively impact on other institutions such as the National Rehab Centre.

I appreciate that this is something that your service cannot deal with directly but I hope that if people or patients opinions are to matter or be listened to then this would be an opportunity to forward mine.
